Set up your project

Choose a project type and enter your measurements.

Add the lengths of all straight sections.
Use your fence design or local requirements.
Each opening is assumed to need two gate-side posts.
Simple estimate; ignores overlap and cuts.
Important: Fence post counts depend on corners, gate openings, end posts, terrain, and local code. Deck material and structural sizing depend on joist layout, spans, loads, and applicable building rules. Use these results for early planning only and confirm specifications with a qualified professional where needed.

How estimates are calculated

Fence bays are estimated by rounding the total run up to whole spacing intervals. Post count begins with one post at each end and adds two gate-side posts per entered opening; this can overcount or undercount complex layouts, so review your actual plan. Horizontal board quantity is shown as bay-lengths multiplied by boards per bay, not individual cut lengths.

Frequently asked questions

How far apart should fence posts be?

Spacing depends on fence height, material, wind exposure, soil, and local requirements. Use your chosen system's instructions or a qualified installer's advice.

Does this calculate structural deck framing?

No. It estimates deck surface area only. It does not size joists, beams, footings, ledger connections, or fasteners.

Why add a waste allowance for decking?

Extra material may be needed for cuts, board defects, pattern layout, and site conditions. Choose an allowance based on the product and layout.
